Q: When did you get into electronic music and what made you decide to become a Dj?
I got into EDM probably around 2002. I had been listening to remixes of Mario and Tetris and wanted more LOL. I decided to become a DJ after a year or so of watching them in action at events. I wanted to learn it the moment I saw it.
Q: What genres do you play and what others do you have an interest in?
I play mostly Hardstyle with some Hardcore and Gabba here and there. I really prefer the harder genres in EDM. Hard Dance, Hard Trance etc. I like quite a bit of EDM though. There are only a handful of the genres I really don’t like much.
Q: For those not familiar with your style, how best could you describe it?
Early Hardstyle was extremely aggressive and didn’t have many melodies. It was mainly crazy synths with heavy ass kick and bass HAHA. The stuff that comes out now days is considered Nustyle or Mainstream Hardstyle. It has more melodies along with the influence of the earlier ideas. But the drums and synths are still extremely heavy and aggressive. I pretty much do a blend of all the harder genres in EDM that I like most.
Q: What are your latest accomplishments as a DJ?
I guess my latest one wouldn’t really be as a DJ but as a producer. I recently won a remix competition for Nutty Trance. My remix should be released sometime soon digitally. I’m pretty excited about it!
Q: What is or was your greatest accomplishment?
I think so far my greatest accomplishment is how much I’ve influenced the Reno scene. I remember when harder genres would come on and the floor would empty LOL. Party people really didn’t like it. For a while I was one of the few if not the only DJ around here that played Hardstyle. I kept playing it and slowly it started to grow more and became more popular. Now we have quite a few DJ’s around here that play Hardstyle or similar genres. The Reno scene really likes it now. It’s a huge change from what it used to be LOL. The harder styles are definitely taking over.
Q: Any strange requests, odd happenings or just weird things ever happen while you were playing? Or your most memorable gig?
I used to get a lot of requests to play Satisfaction by Benny Benassi but always had to decline LMAO. The craziest situation I think I’ve been in while playing a set was at a past Nowloween event. Someone had maced the main room. Everyone left the room because it was just to much for them. To many people were coughing or couldn’t breathe well so they went into the main hallway. But I couldn’t leave I had just put on a track I had been waiting all night to lay down. I was coughing a lot LOL. I didn’t care though that track ripped!
Q: MP3, CD or Vinyl and why?
I started off with Vinyl and I will always love it the most. I love turntables and Turntablism. The crackle of a record as it plays is fucking badass! I got into digital a while back because I started producing and that was the only way to play out my tracks. Now I’m mostly CD because of the many complications Vinyl has these days. Digital is much easier to cart around when going to another state and no matter how hard the party people dance that shit will never skip. Unless your CD is way messed up LMAO. I will say that I can’t stand Serato though. I understand it’s convenience for Turntablism and DJ’s but it’s cheater for beat matching HAHA. Anyone that uses it knows what I’m talking about!
Q: What's the one track that never leaves your record bag or cd case?
Dana - Unendlichkeit
That track destroys!
Q: Are there any projects your working on to look forward to in the next year?
I’ve got a few things in the mix but they are secrets for now. ![]()
Q: Who are your favorite Producers and or Dj’s that you listen to, play or have been influenced by and why?
The artists on Scantraxx, Fusion, Superplastik, Titanic, Activa etc. All of those producers are top notch. The majority of them have been with the Hardstyle movement since the beginning and are constantly shaping it into new and unbelievable sounds.
Q: How long have you been producing your own material? Was there someone or something besides being a DJ that motivated you to make your own music?
I’ve been producing for about six years now. The main reason I started producing was so that I could play out my own music for the party people and see them dance. I always had ideas and melodies in my head I wanted to put into music. Now I can!
Q: What kind of software and hardware are you using and what would be your ideal studio setup?
I’m currently a Reason 4.0 user and have no hardware. Lame I know! I’d love some hardware if only it were cheaper LMAO. I guess a high quality studio with a huge mixing board with more channels than I even need. Some bangin’ monitors, a bunch of Virus synthesizers, a recording booth. You get the idea I want the works LOL. You can never have enough in the music department.
Q: If you could open for anyone who would it be, and if you could play anywhere, where would it be? Or If you were to throw a party in Reno what would that line up look like?
I’d love to open for any top Producer in the Hardstyle scene. The Prophet or Zany would be dope. If I could play anywhere I’d definitely have to go with Qlimax in Europe! Those parties are insane! If I threw a party in Reno it would probably have an all Hardstyle and Hardcore / Gabba line up. Lots of locals and famous artists from over seas.
Q: If you didn’t become a Dj what else do you think you would be doing when you’re not at your day job?
Probably be doing Parkour. If you don’t know what that is then look it up. It’s an art of Free Running.
Q: Have you noticed a decline in attendance at events you’ve played, and do you think it can be attributed to a possible loss of interest in EDM?
Attendance all depends on how well the promoter actually promotes his or her event. If you promote a really good party with lots of effort it pays off. Tried and tested many times that is the way to go. So no, I don’t think there is a possible loss of interest in EDM. If anything the interest has greatly increased.
Q: Any suggestions for other artists or promoters, either up and coming or just in general?
Never quit no matter how hard it gets or how much people put you or your style down. If your heart is in it and you work hard it will pay off! Sometimes It can be rough or you have less gigs / really bad ones. But don’t let it stop you from doing what you love.
Q: Anything you would like to add or get off your chest?
This was my first interview and I have to say I’m pretty zoned out right now LOL. Thanks for putting me on the DJ Spotlight NVRAVES!
